On Sunday 1st July, 2007 The Six Pound Note Club held a very successful open day at the brand new facility built for Noel Wilson Racing.  There was an excellent attendance and here is an article reproduced from the York Evening Press on Friday 6th July, 2007.

Nikki and Noel Wilson

For Noel Wilson, it has been a long time coming. The North Yorkshire trainer is looking at a bright future after settling into his own purpose built racing yard at Flaxton.

Wilson, a leading amateur jockey for 20 years and trainer since 2000, had to wait patiently before moving into his 30-stable and seven-furlong all-weather gallop facility at the turn of the year. More than 100 people turned up last weekend for an open day, when Wilson showed off his impressive yard and launched a new racing venture - The Six Pound Note Club.

But Wilson, who has tasted success on the track this season with Hotham, at Pontefract, and Dodaa, at Southwell, isn't finished yet.  "We've 30 stables here with plans to build another 30 and maybe in a year, to expand even more as we progress," he said. "We've got a seven-furlong all-weather gallop and we've also laid a grass gallop, which will take around ten months to settle in. Then we will have all our own facilities here - grass and all-weather gallops, schooling fences, starting stalls - an all-in-one facility."

Good things definitely come to those who wait. It took around four years for the planning permissions and building work before Noel, and wife Nikki, were able to finally move their string into the yard.

Now alongside the new racing club, Wilson wants to concentrate on getting better quality horses into the yard, and more owners, and be competing with the top trainers - at bigger meetings - in the not too distant future.

Sam Drury, riding Rocket Force, leads the field from Compton Eclaire, United Nations, Michaels Dream and Nanton at Flaxton

He added: "We've started this new racing club, called The Six Pound Note Club. We've got three horses at the moment, where people can get into racehorse ownership for a small amount of money. We want to build this up to around ten horses."

Hotham was Wilson's last winner a few weeks ago and is set to run again later on this month - but he's just one of a number of stable stars in the yard.

"Hotham's a five-furlong horse, he might see six out. He won at Pontefract and he's been unlucky since. He'll probably run in the next fortnight," said Wilson.

"We've got a couple of nice horses. Nanton's a very good horse for the Flat, as is United Nations. Jumping wise, there's Arctic Ghost and, also, Michaels Dream has been a stable star for us winning six races.

"We've got some nice two-year-olds to go with it who are just taking a bit of time and we've got a nice stream of horses to suit the whole year. Times are very exciting and we are building up the strength of horse.

End of article

The Six Pound Note Club is a racing syndicate formed by Tom Jones, one of Noel's owners, from Bolton.  There are 3 horses in the syndicate, Red Romeo, Red Wind and Red Skipper, but shares in Red Romeo are not actually for sale.  The syndicate is divided into 10 shares and there is now just one share left for sale at £5,500. This sum includes the purchase of a one-tenth share of each of the first 2 horses, plus training fees through to the end of October.  Entry fees, jockey fees and transportation will be charged at cost.  At the end of October there will be an ongoing cost of £40 per week for training fees.

Anyone purchasing a share in the 2 geldings will also be invited to follow Red Romeo whenever he races including the provision of owners badges.  The 2 horses for sale are as follows:-

Red Skipper a 2 year old born on 7th May 2005 and a Chestnut Gelding
(by Captain Rio out of Speed To Lead (Ire) (Darshaan(11.7F))

Red Wind (Ire) a 2 year old born on 28th January 2005 and a Chestnut Gelding
(by Tagula (Ire) (7.3f) out of Trim (Ire) (Ela-Mana-Mou 12.3f))

Red Skipper is by the prolific first crop sire, Captain Rio, who has to date had 11 winners and lies 2nd to Acclamation in the league table for sirses of all 2 year olds this season.  His dam is from the famous Northern Dancer line.

Red Wind is by Tagula whoes progeny have earned nearly £3 million in prize money and out of the unraced mare Trim, sister to the smart Mana-Mou-Bay, multiple 7f-1m winner at 2-5, Evaluator, triple 7-10f winner at 3-4, and Dollar King, 9f winner at 3.

Both horses have been showing a fair turn of speed on the gallops and are ready to run.  Red Skipper is entered at Chester on Friday evening.  However, this is subject to the last available share being sold beforehand.

For those you of you more interested in National Hunt horses, The Six Pound Note Club will be pleased to supply you with details of 4 National Hunt horses which will be available for syndication from October 2007.

Cherry Tree Stud

Cherry Tree Stud is based in a small village called Burnham in North Lincolnshire close to the Humber Bridge. The property has been bought by myself and Steve Blendell, a former professional eventer, and requires a great deal of work to become a fully fledged Stud Farm and we have the JCB in as we speak preparing land for the building of additional stables.  In reality we shall not be fully operational for another couple of months but we did purchase a Mare, Vicious Empress, in foal to Captain Rio from trainer Richard Whitaker in March.  Our decision paid off handsomely when we were blessed with a beautiful filly foal on 15th May 2007, and Captain Rio subsequently raced to 2nd in the New Crop Sires Table with 11 winners to date from his first crop of 2 year olds.

It is our intention to purchase a number of Mares in the future and look to syndicate our foals and we consider ourselves

extremely lucky that, at the first attempt, we had a lovely big filly foal of such excellent conformation, enabling the syndication to be completed within a couple of weeks of her birth.  She has been given a stable name of Mable and, as is always the case, everyone has fallen in love with her.  In fact Steve wanted to keep her all to himself but commerciality overuled
She is seen above galloping around the paddock with mum, aged 4 days, and to the left, you have a good profile of her aged 2 months.  The syndication agreement determines that she will go to The Doncaster Bloodstock Yearling Sales in September 2008 and she will be sold if bidding goes above the reserve stated in the syndication agreement.  If the reserve is not met then she will be sent into training for the syndicate.  It is our aim to offer syndication at all levels starting from as little as £10 per week for a 50th share.  Hopefully, this will enable many people who previously have not owned a racehorse to enjoy the pleasures of racehorse ownership without it breaking the bank.

We shall now be bringing you our latest news on a regular basis and look forward to enjoying our racing experiences together.
